Meet Our Team of Komodo Experts

The heart of Electric Yacht Komodo is our people, with over 150 years of combined maritime and hospitality experience. We are a collective of seasoned professionals, passionate conservationists, and five-star experts united by a love for Indonesia. Our team’s deep local knowledge ensures every journey is authentic and seamlessly navigates the specific regulations of the Komodo National Park Authority. Our hiring practices prioritize local talent, with over 85% of our crew hailing from East Nusa Tenggara. This commitment is guided by the principles outlined in our Sustainability Commitment.

A Crew Rooted in the Archipelago

Our belief in local expertise goes beyond statistics. By investing in our Flores-based team, we provide meaningful career paths in marine tourism, offering internationally recognized training in safety, hospitality, and sustainable practices. This means your deckhand might be the one to spot a rare bird species, your engineer can explain the traditional fishing techniques you see, and your captain knows the one sheltered cove that will be perfectly calm when the afternoon winds pick up. This deep, lived-in knowledge is the intangible luxury that transforms a great holiday into an memorable journey.

Aria Wiratama

Founder & CEO, Juara Holding Group

Credentials: MBA, INSEAD; B.Sc. in Environmental Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Bio: Aria is the visionary behind the Juara Holding Group. Born in Jakarta with family roots in Flores, he spent 15 years at the intersection of sustainable development and luxury hospitality. After a career managing eco-resort development for international hotel chains, Aria returned to Indonesia in 2015 with a mission to create a portfolio of businesses that showcase the nation’s beauty without compromising its ecological integrity. He is a passionate advocate for green technology, guiding every decision from our naval architecture to our community partnerships, such as our direct-sourcing agreement with a vanilla farming cooperative in the highlands of Manggarai. He believes that true luxury is experiencing pristine nature, a vision that required overcoming the immense logistical challenges of building a state-of-the-art electric vessel 1,500 km from the nearest major shipyard.

Captain Budi Santoso

Fleet Captain

Credentials: Ahli Nautika Tingkat I (ANT I); 25 Years Experience in Indonesian Waters; Over 100,000 nautical miles logged in the archipelago.

Bio: A native of Labuan Bajo, Captain Budi possesses an exceptional understanding of the Komodo archipelago. The sea is in his blood; he knows the currents, tides, and secret anchorages of these islands like the back of his hand, from navigating the challenging Lintah Strait to predicting the katabatic winds that flow off the islands at dusk. Having captained traditional Phinisi schooners for over 15 years with respected operators like Flores Sea Expeditions, he is an expert navigator and a calm leader. Captain Budi was instrumental in the 120-hour sea trials of our electric yacht, embracing the new technology with enthusiasm and helping calibrate the silent propulsion for navigating within 50 meters of sensitive reefs. He takes immense pride in sharing his home, ensuring every voyage meets the highest safety standards detailed on our Safety & Compliance page.

Dr. Isabella Siregar

Lead Marine Biologist & Head of Impact

Credentials: Ph.D. in Marine Conservation, Scripps Institution of Oceanography; PADI Divemaster.

Bio: Isabella is our scientific conscience and the architect of our conservation programs. Having spent over 3,000 hours on field projects with WWF-Indonesia and The Nature Conservancy, she has co-authored 5 peer-reviewed papers on Coral Triangle ecosystems, including a notable study on manta ray behavioral responses to boat traffic. Onboard, she leads guided snorkeling at top-tier sites like Batu Bolong, using underwater slates to identify species in real-time and explain the complex symbiotic relationships guests are witnessing. She shares insights into manta rays, sea turtles, and the park’s 1,000+ species of fish and 260+ species of coral. Isabella also oversees our citizen science data collection, contributing valuable information on megafauna sightings directly to the Komodo National Park Authority’s database, and ensures all content adheres to our strict Editorial Standards.
